We are familly....
Before i ramble on about this and that, i'd like to thank everyone who commented on my last blog. I didnt post my last entry to get a response, i wrote it because i kind of had to to get it off my chest. i wasnt expecting anyone to post. but what you all said really meant a lot to me, so thank you.
For as long as i can remember, well longer, for as long as i have been alive, longer, i have never lived near any extended family. I don't usually think about it, it's not something i'd go to therapy for. that's not to say it doesnt occasionaly bother me. occasionally people will say 'im going to my grandma's for dinner' or 'my cousin invited me to his school dance' or w/e, and i'll have a pang ( a pang...) of jelousy. but generally, i dont think about it.
My Auntie Rob and my Uncle Billy arrived last night. they are the only extended family to visit us...my nana is scared of flying and no one else really has enough money or time. They brought with them christmas presents from my nana. As an introduction to me opening the first one Rob said 'we saw this and me Mum just knew it was you' i opened it, and it was this silver bangle with a little bit of sparkly diamond things in the middle 'it has a magnetic clasp' i immediatly loved it. nana was right, it was JUST me. My mother ran upstairs and got one that is very similar to it...real diamonds tho, and i looked at my Aunts wrist, she was wearing a silver bangle just like mine, but without the skarly diamond things. its ridiculous, because we are the only 3 to have them, but i felt like i had been fully welcomed into the familly. it struck me so odd that my nana, who i havnt seen in a year, who i used to see once or twice a year, could pick out something entirely perfect for me. It strikes me odd when they remember me...i'm the youngest first cousin, the baby, and i'm the one that never sees them. All of the rest of the extended familly hang out at nana's all the time, they see each other all the time, i really miss that.
I told my dad how i felt like i actually had a familly when i got the bracelet, and how i usually dont feel that, he said we would go visit them more. i hope he sticks by that. i really do. Apparently nana is losing weight, and energy, she won't be around much longer. I would hate to not really know anything about her when she dies. I barely know her, its so wierd...
There are so many uncles, cousins, second cousins, cousins of cousins, my dads cousins, who come to every family party when we go back, we call uncle keith, the oldest brother 'the don'....we should have a vowel at the end of our name...
